Kitchen/Bath Remodel Process

The Overall Process

Step 1 - Design Consultation.
This initial design consultation usually takes about 1 1/2 hours.  During this time we will introduce ourselves, discuss your project, and take preliminary measurements and pictures if necessary.  All design consultations are charged at an hourly rate of $50.00 an hour if you are located within 20 miles of our Tempe location, otherwise, $75.00.

Step 2 - Design Drawings
CAD drawings will be developed from the measurements taken of your kitchen, home office, laundry room or any other room that you wish to remodel. Research and bids will be completed if necessary.

Step 3 - Commitment
The initial design will be presented along with an estimate for the cabinetry or for the custom furniture piece. At this point in the process you will know if you want to continue with this endeavor or not.  If you decide not to proceed than an invoice for the hours spent on drawings, research and bids will be presented. This is normally around 3 to 5 hours depending on the complexity of the remodel. The drawings are yours after invoice payment is received.  Another charge to keep in mind is that there is a 10% fee on all items bought from vendors that we receive and pass onto you our contractor pricing.

Step 4 - Design Presentation and Product Decisions
There are many decisions that must be made during the design stage so this could take up to 5 visits or more and visits usually run about 2 hours per meeting.  This may also involve time for shopping for tile, appliances, plumbing fixtures etc.

Some critical elements that require much discussion are appliances, cabinet door styles, colors, storage requirements, lighting, flooring, countertop and tile materials, plumbing fixtures and a host of small details such as knobs and/or pulls.  It is mandatory that all appliances be picked out before the design can be finalized.  Designs can be changed up to the point of ordering the cabinets.

By the end of this phase you will have a clear understanding as to what to expect during the installation process and the entire cost of the remodel.

Step 5 - Ordering Cabinetry
In order for cabinets to be ordered, 100% of their cost must be received.  The lead time for cabinets is usually 3 to 6 weeks depending on the manufacturer.  That is why this needs to be done as soon as possible. This time may increase during the holiday season.

Step 6 - Installation
At this point the design is completed and I will be managing the project until the installation is completed.  If there are no construction items in your remodel then once the cabinets have been received I will call you to schedule a demolition/installation date.  If there are construction items, a separate schedule will be developed to insure that everything is done in a timely manner.  I work with a local remodeling  company as well as with an electrician and other trade professionals that may be needed for your project.  All trade professional that I work with are registered contractors.

The cabinet demo/installation may take a week depending on the complexity of the remodel.  As soon as possible, usually when the base cabinets are being installed, I will schedule a template for the countertop fabrication.  The kitchen sink, faucets, cooktop must be on site before the countertop can be installed.  Countertop fabricators can take up to 3 weeks after the template before installation can be completed.
